Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

1 Tbsp (15ml) oil
3 potatoes
1 Tbsp (15ml) butter/margarine
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 tsp. (1ml) salt
1 can 10oz.(284ml) kernel corn/veggies
½ lb (.25kg) hamburger
1 Tbsp. (15ml) milk

Directions

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add onion & hamburger. Cook until pink colour is gone from the meat & drain. Pour into casserole dish with salt & pepper. Meanwhile, peel, cut up, and boil potatoes over high heat in a large pot. Add salt & cook 20 minutes or until potatoes are soft. Drain & mash potatoes. Add milk & butter/margarine to potatoes. Drain corn/vegetables & pour over the meat. Spread the mashed potatoes over the corn & meat. Dot with butter or margarine (this makes the tope brown & crispy). Bake in 350F (180C) oven for 20 minutes.
VARIATIONS: Add tomatoes/ketchup.
