About Us
foodmarks started out as an idea to simplify the process of collecting recipes and share them between people. Particularly, it is built to take both complete recipes and links to recipes and add tags to narrow down choices. Here are a few examples of problems we wanted to tackle:
Kevin used delicious before to keep track of recipes because he primarily found by reading food blogs and keeping the bookmark. Unfortunately, the tags were a little too bulky to use, and he had difficulty finding a recipe to use when the time came because he needed to distinguish between ingredients like "strawberries" and courses like "breakfast" in looking over the massive list of tags to filter by.
Nicole had a mix of recipes from the family binder of newspaper clippings and ones she found online. These were organized into several Word documents on her computer, roughly categorized, but not by much. These were very large, loaded slowly with tens of pages, weren't easily searchable, and needed to be updated regularly.
Julie didn't have a particular organization system, but she did know a few recipes her mom had. To get those, she needed to email her mom for it, and her mom would need to type them up and email them back to her. Not only did Julie not have access to the general docs, it could also be slow to get the recipes.
So we built foodmarks. It's a side project that we built as a tool for ourselves and friends and family. As such, there isn't open registration for foodmarks, but if you're interested in using it to store your recipes, feel free to email Kevin, who can set you up with an account. You will likely have to deal with bugs as well since it was never intended to be commercially available. Even if you don't want to store your own recipes, feel free to poke around on the site. The search tool and recipes are publicly available, so you can see what we're cooking.
Note that we don't claim ownership over any of the recipes on this website. Since we've been collecting them, it's likely that we've lost some of the property attribution of credit to the original recipe creators. If you find any content on the site that you would like to have removed, email Kevin, and he'll get to it straight away.
